1st term

Multimedia Projects
  • The subject is focused on Software Engineering, centred especially in the features of management and direction of multimedia projects, complementing to subjects Analysis and Specification of Multimedia Systems of 2nd year, and Design of Multimedia Systems, of 3rd year.
  • It covers the activities addressed to the scheduling, estimate, monitoring and control of a multimedia project, as well as the execution of this plan using the methodologies, technologies and tools more suitable to contribute to its success. Also it addresses the direction of complete projects using standardized procedures and documents.
  • On the other hand, it pretends to raise conscience on the importance of the profession, and the creation and use of standards and of the legal and ethical features of the ICT.
  • The asignatura is compulsory and, therefore, will be studied by all the students of the degree.

Video Games I
  • Video games I is a subject that deeply explores in the knowledge and skills of video games design and development, emphasizing in the features related with the Artificial Intelligence and the network communications.
  • It is a subject with a marked technological character, where the students will acquire the bases to be able to participate in the development of modern video games, in which it is practically indispensable its operation through Internet, the suitable use of the resources to give answer in real time, and the development of algorithms that can give life to characters and autonomous beings.

Digital Post-Production
  • Nowadays all audiovisual content developed for the cinema, television or video game industry happens by a stage of digital postproduction. This stage of multimedia content creation comprises very diverse techniques of image and videos proocessing (colour adjust or improvement, videos composition, movement mates, titles addition, special effects introduction, etc...).
  • Digital postproduction is an industry of fast evolution. This fast evolution of the digital technology contributes increasingly more options to the audiovisual sector to produce quality films and professional videos more efficiently than before. Almost all what see in the cinema or in the television has been made through a post-production studio.
  • For this reason, the study of this subject will provide professional opportunities in a wide range of means, including production of films and television, video post-production, advertising and media based on Internet.

Sound Design Techniques
  • Sound is an important dimension of any multimedia project. A multimedia system without taking care of sound will not be complete.
  • This subject is a natural continuation of the subject "Sound and Music by Computer", in which technical and conceptual foundations of this discipline were seen. Also it will be studied the concepts and techniques involved in sound design: its concepts and terminology, the pickup sounds to build sound libraries, the main techniques of sound synthesis and the process of production of a sonorous environment to complete a visual project.

2nd term

Advanced Graphics Techniques
  • Computer graphics are a main discipline in Multimedia Engineering. Good part of projects that will be developed by future multimedia engineers will have a graphic interface or will do use of three-dimensional graphic models.
  • As a continuation of the subject “Computer Graphics”, “Advanced Graphics Techniques” presents more advanced features of graphics, emphasizing in methods, algorithms and structures of necessary data for an efficient graphic representation.
  • The subject is mandatory and, therefore, will be studied by all the students of the degree.

Video Games II
  • The subject “Video games II” focuses on the study of physic and graphic engines for 3D video games.
  • In this subject it will be studied the characteristics that incorporate the different engines for video games, and techniques and algorithms used in them.
  • It supposes a continuation of “Video games Basics” and complements the contents of “Video games I” for the creation of a complete video game. It is also related with the subject “Advanced Graphics Techniques”, contributing to her with specific techniques oriented to video games.

Virtual Reality
  • In the last decade, and until our days, Virtual Reality has had a big growth, so much in the branch of the entertainment (with the apparition of consoles like XBox or Wii) as in a wide range of areas: medicine, rehabilitation, education, etc. It's possible to find Virtual Reality systems that help to therapists to treat determinate types of phobias, or systems that help medical students and doctors to practise determinate procedures, or simulators that allow to learn manipulation of machinery or vehicles, or tourist applications and virtual museums, etc.
  • The basic principles of Virtual Reality and its applications are introduced in this subject. Students will know what is Virtual Reality, how it can be used and how it can be implemented and exploited. It will combine investigation of theoretical and practical features by means of the development of a Virtual Reality project.

Advanced Multimedia Services (*)
  • The subject Advanced Multimedia Services is optional and is part of the specialization in Contents Management, although it can adapt perfectly to the specialization in Creation and Digital Entertainment.
  • It presents the specific case to resolve the problem of the development of advanced multimedia services like video diffusion, high availability services, massive services, voice IP and services full-IP.
